 The town of Coelemu is an agricultural center of 18,000 people located in a valley about 5 hours south of Santiago and one hour north of Concepcion. A new Covenant church plant, Templo Renacer, has been started by Pastor Darwin Mora near the town market. The new church building, construction behind his home, is only a small sanctuary and was recently completed. Pastor Darwin has dreams of constructing a two-story building next door which would include a cafeteria and kitchen. The dream is to provide meals for children in the area before and after school. Many children in the area are not fed well, due to poverty. The church has a strong core of adults, but has not been able to connect with many families or youth yet. The congregation has around 30 members. They are looking for help with any type of outreach into the community. Pastor Darwin’s wife, Elaine, is the director of a dormitory where youth from nearby villages live during the week. Mission teams have total access to the 160 students, many of whom live in poverty and have been abused. English classes, sports, education, and any type of youth ministry are needed there. Many places in the community are open to teams, including the town theater and gymnasiums. |
